Avon Park Air Force Range

Avon Park Air Force Range is a 106,000-acre military training facility located in Polk and Highlands Counties, in South-Central Florida (see our official mission statement).  The Fish, Wildlife, and Outdoor Recreation Program works in coordination with the Air Force to provide recreational opportunities to the public and military personnel.

APAFR is known as a world-class destination for hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, birding, and outdoor educational opportunities for all ages.

To visit APAFR, proceed northeast along Highway 64 outside of Avon Park and follow it to the end.  Proceed through the front gate and go straight for about a mile to the Outdoor Recreation Office at Building 600 (it looks like a log cabin).  Be sure to check in with the Park Rangers at our office to purchase the required permits (see Fees for more information).

Hours of Operation
Avon Park Air Force Range is primarily used for military training missions during the week. Public access is allowed over the weekends but our schedule varies weekly. Please call for details.
